This upcoming Sunday Sept 6th is our Church Conference here at Glen Dale UMC.
This means we will spend the first half of our hour-hour and 15 minutes together in worship and praise of God with a message from Rev. Greg Markins our District Superintendent.
The 2nd half of worship will consist of a conference where we submit official paperwork through which we lift each other up and offering ourselves to serve God in the coming year as a community.
There will be a brief time between the two halves of our time together so that any who feel the need to leave will be able to do so.
A little background about Greg our new District Superintendent that he put together to share with the Northern District he oversees.
May you all have a blessed week! - Pastor Jon
“I was born and raised in Huntington, WV. I answered the call to ministry after a 20‑year career in the grocery business, where I worked in management, finance, and engineering. I graduated from Marshall University (Regents Bachelor of Arts) and Duke Divinity School (Master of Divinity).
My appointments include Beverly Hills (Huntington), Mount Olivet (Wheeling), Wayside (Vienna), St. Paul’s (Nitro), and I currently serve Steele Memorial in Barboursville.
I’ve served on various district and conference-level teams, including Disaster Relief, Mission & Outreach, Nominations, Camp & Outdoor Ministries, The Board of Ordained Ministry as Registrar, and as the Director of the Course of Study School for the Ohio/West Virginia Extension.
I am married to the Rev. Teresa Markins. We have two children, Karah (Jake) and Ashton (Ashley), and one grandson, Xander.
I have a passion for hands‑on mission and leading others to Christ. I strive to help people discover and use their God‑given gifts in whatever capacity they may be serving so together we can share Christ with the world. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling (especially to the UK), reading, biking and kayaking.” - Rev. Markins
