I extend blessings and prayers over Michael Murphy as he takes a new step of faith in serving God through his Music Ministry. I invite you to read his love and appreciation for what this Church has meant to him over the years and invite you to pray for him also.

My introduction to Glen Dale United Methodist Church was in 2017, following the former Choir Director, Scott Glysson’s decision to relocate to California. It was not long before I felt the love and appreciation of a congregation that is always eager to welcome new people into its arms. For me, GDUMC is home, and its people are family. I cannot count the times I have been shown kindness, whether a bowl of soup after choir rehearsal, a card or note of appreciation, a small gift at Christmas, or something as significant as the comfort and understanding given following my father’s 

passing. GDUMC has a heart that pulses with love, service, and passion for continued growth in the image of Christ. In my time at Glen Dale, I came to know the blessing that is the people who call GDUMC home. All this is to say that I have been faced with a very difficult decision. Around this time last year, I felt that the Lord was preparing my heart for something regarding my music ministry. I was not sure what was changing, so I did not make any drastic shifts and have continued to serve as Keyboardist here at Glen Dale.  A few weeks ago, I learned about a church in need of a Music Director. Prayerfully considering all things has not been easy, but I have rested upon the decision to grow in my music ministry as the Music Director at First Christian Church in Wheeling. 

I am maintaining my membership at Glen Dale United Methodist Church and will participate in worship where possible. I will not be a stranger. Until such time as you find a new keyboardist, I will supply piano recordings to help support choral and congregational singing. Most importantly, I want to thank my church family for the love, support, and appreciation you have shown me in my 8+ years of service at Glen Dale United Methodist Church. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
