Join Us This Saturday for our Community Egg Hunt!
As we look forward to our 4th annual community Easter egg hunt this Saturday, April 4th, at 10:30 AM, the sight of brightly colored eggs reminds us of a tradition that stretches back nearly two thousand years. While we celebrate with joy today, the origin of the "Easter egg" is rooted in the bold witness of St. Mary Magdalene.
The Witness Behind the Tradition: St. Mary Magdalene and the Red Egg
A Miracle in the Emperor’s Court
According to Holy Tradition, Mary Magdalene traveled to Rome after the Resurrection to share the Gospel. During an audience with Emperor Tiberius Caesar, she offered him a simple white egg as a gift and proclaimed, "Christ is Risen!"
The Emperor was skeptical, reportedly telling Mary that a man rising from the dead was as impossible as the egg in her hand turning red. Before he could finish his sentence, the egg miraculously transformed into a vibrant, blood-red color.
Why We Celebrate Today
This "first" Easter egg became a powerful teaching tool. The hard shell represents the sealed tomb of Christ, while the red color symbolizes the blood He shed. Just as a bird breaks through the shell to bring new life, the egg reminds us of Christ breaking the bonds of death.
This Saturday, as we see the children searching for eggs, we remember Mary’s courage and the timeless message of hope she shared with the world.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the park this Saturday, April 4th, at 10:30 AM for a morning of fellowship and fun.
To ensure our gathering is as safe as it is joyful, we have coordinated with our local Glen Dale law enforcement to assist with event security. Our volunteers will also be on hand to help guide the various activities and crafts throughout the morning.
Whether you are here for the first time or fourth, you are a vital part of this community. Let’s make this year’s hunt a wonderful celebration of spring and new beginnings.
