Dear Glen Dale United Methodist Church,
Over the past few weeks I have been starting a new spiritual discipline of prayer and I wanted to share it all with you. I was introduced into a app on my phone called lectio 365 and in it they have a section of prayer that you can be guided through three times a day morning noon and night coinciding with the ancient rhythm of prayer For God's people all the way back to the days of Jesus.
What I love about this is that it is interdenominational and international. It is written spoken and used by people all around the world. I always had a hard time reading guided prayer and having big presence of mind that God was with you, but being led through it by voices from God's children throughout all of creation has helped brought in my understanding of God, reminded me of my grounding in God, and bless me through the sharing of God with brothers and sisters from all corners of creation.
I started off each day just by picking one prayer that I would do for a few days then I added on a second and then finally the third. It helps me focus it helps me recenter and it honestly helps me sleep at night OK I by myself longing for it longing for time with God if I skip this way of prayer now. Sometimes I can't use the app but when I can't I do, but I always try to stop and pray.
I'm writing this, because it has helped me and I hope to offer to you and those interested that might help them. Always feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Beneath is a quick overview of the lectio 365 app and its key features in rhythm of prayer that has been so helpful to me this past month. Taken from the Google Play store, For any interested in joining in on this way of prayer.
Peace in Christ Jesus our Lord,
Pastor Jon
Overview
Lectio 365 is a free daily devotional app created by the 24-7 Prayer movement to help believers pause, reflect, and pray with Scripture throughout the day. It’s built around the ancient rhythms of Christian prayer—morning, midday, and evening—and invites users to encounter God’s presence in the rhythms of everyday life.
Key Features & Rhythm of Prayer
- Morning: Lectio Divina / P.R.A.Y. Rhythm
Each morning devotional follows the simple P.R.A.Y. framework:
- Pause to be still
- Rejoice (often with a Psalm) & reflect on Scripture
- Ask for God’s help
- Yield to His will
This pattern helps you open your heart to God and ground your day in Scripture.
- Midday: The Lord’s Prayer & Compassion
Around midday, the app encourages you to pause, pray the Lord’s Prayer, and reflect on compassion—shifting attention away from personal busyness toward God’s kingdom and the world around you.
- Night: The Examen / Reflective Prayer
At evening, Lectio 365 leads you through a prayer modeled on the Examen, helping you:
- reflect on the day that has passed
- notice God’s presence
- repent and release burdens
- rest in peace and trust
