Seeing the Word Afresh: God’s Voice in Our Daily Lives
Have you ever found yourself reading a passage of Scripture for the tenth—or even the hundredth—time, only to have a single word or phrase suddenly leap off the page?
This week, a member of our congregation shared a powerful moment of discovery with me. He said:
"I’ve read the Bible from cover to cover, but that verse never stood out to me that way before now. Thank you for sharing that with me, in the way you did."
This is the beauty of a "Living Word." The Bible is not just a historical record; it is a vibrant landscape where God continues to meet us exactly where we are.
The Mirror of Scripture
When we read the stories of those who came before us—from the doubts of Thomas to the triumphs of Esther—we aren't just reading ancient history. We are seeing a mirror of our own lives.
  • In their problems, we find permission to bring our own struggles to God.
  • In their growth, we find the courage to let the Holy Spirit refine us.
  • In their triumphs, we see the evidence of God’s unchanging faithfulness
Better Together
Perhaps the most vital lesson from our fellow parishioner’s quote is how that breakthrough happened: through a shared conversation.
We were never meant to navigate our faith in isolation. Scripture tells us that "as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17). When we discuss a verse with a brother or sister in Christ, we gain the benefit of their unique perspective and life experience. They may see a glimmer of hope or a challenge in a text that our own "blind spots" caused us to miss.
Your Invitation
This month, I invite you to read with "new eyes." Ask God to show you how the ancient stories of growth and struggle apply to your 2026. And most importantly, don't keep your insights to yourself. Start a conversation after service or over coffee. Your unique perspective might be the very "breakthrough" someone else has been praying for.
